Individual therapy
Mindfully Balanced Therapy, PLLC provides individual online therapy to clients over the age of 18 in Illinois, North Carolina, & South Carolina.
My goal for my clients is to help you work through the things keeping you stuck in patterns of overthinking, perfectionism, and imposter syndrome. To help you feel more equipped to move through those hurdles, without losing the self-reflective part of you that you value.
Therapy with me isn’t:
A one-and-done experience where all your problems are solved forever on the first day
Me telling you that you are the problem and have to fix every single thing in your life
Me telling you that you’re an A+ person and everybody else is wrong and they’re the ones who need to change everything
Me sending you a list of podcasts, blogs, and books to check out…and charging you money for it
Keeping things surface level and never digging deeper into what’s really going on
What does therapy with me look like?
In our consultation phone call we’ll talk about your primary concerns, your goals for therapy at this time, and how my background and training can support you in meeting those goals. The consultation phone calls are scheduled for 20 minutes so we can cover any questions you might have.
When we meet for your first session, we’ll explore what your needs are and where we need to focus our work together. We’ll check-in on what things look like in different parts of your life to help get on the same page about our starting place for the work we’ll do. We’ll also clarify your goals for therapy, our path to getting there, and how often would be best for us to meet for those goals to be achieved. I’m excited to help clients who are motivated to create meaningful and sustainable change in their lives, to feel greater peace of mind and joy in the people and things that matter to them.
The things we talk about in therapy are confidential. You may feel vulnerable at first, but we’ll work together to build that trust and help you to feel comfortable in how much you share, and how we approach solutions and coping.
Sometimes in therapy I may give you:
Questions to help you better understand yourself, why your brain thinks a certain way, or what kinds of things influence you in particular situations
Validation that what you’re feeling/thinking/going through makes sense, and encourage self-compassion
Challenges to look at situations from other perspectives, get unstuck from thoughts, or try new approaches to problems
Specific skills or strategies to resolve a problem or reduce the intensity of your anxiety
Homework to practice a skill in between sessions, reflect on a concept more deeply, or track patterns of things we’re addressing
My background, training, and experience allows me to provide a variety of therapeutic approaches to my clients, including:
Mindfulness-Based
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Compassion-Focused
Solution-Focused
Positive Psychology
Strength-Based
Mind-Body Techniques
Trauma-Focused
One thing I try to do regularly (though I am a human with an imperfect brain) is to check-in with you on how you feel therapy is working and if there’s things you’re taking with you from each session (a new skill or strategy we discussed that you’d like to try, a better understanding of something going on, that it felt good to share something that happened recently or in the past, etc.). If you have a session where you don’t feel you got something from the time together, I invite you to share that with me (I promise, you’re not going to hurt my feelings!) so we can get back on the same page and re-adjust our plan to best meet your goals. If through this we think you may benefit more from another therapy approach or another therapist, I will help you to find that person and navigate that transition if you feel like it’s best for you. Therapy is an investment in yourself, and I’m here to help you get the best for yourself!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How will I know what to talk about?
In our initial session together, we will explore your concerns, needs, challenges, and strengths. From there we will set therapy goals that will allow us to be on the same page with what you’re wanting to see change after your time in therapy. Often times sessions are full of things to talk about, but we can always pull out your list of goals if you’re needing some guidance in what to talk about!
Do i have to have a specific “problem” in order to become a client?
No! Sometimes people seek individual therapy for self-exploration, to have a safe space to talk through stress, or look at what’s working versus what could be improved on in life. Everyone comes in with different wants and needs, and part of our initial session will be to talk about what you’re wanting to get out of our time together so we can set some goals to work towards.
How often do we meet?
This can vary person to person and is certainly something we discuss during the initial appointment as we’re setting goals. Many people often start out with weekly appointments, then slow down to every other week or even once a month as we progress. Other people may begin meeting every other week if they feel that is best for them. Certainly, we can change how often we meet as things progress throughout your time in therapy.
Do you provide couples or family therapy?
I focus my clinical work on working with individuals. If you decide it is helpful to have a family member or partner join a session to learn helpful and healthy ways of supporting you, we can schedule a session for that. If you’re looking for ongoing couples or family therapy, I can provide you with referrals for providers who are able to offer these services.
What if i need or could benefit from medication?
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am unable to prescribe medications. I can, however, provide referrals for psychiatrists or help you with identifying providers in your community. I can also help you to prepare for those appointments by supporting you in making a list of concerns to share with the provider and questions to ask.
